Job summary

The Town of Blacksburg is seeking a Landscape Assistant to maintain public areas, medians, parks and ball fields, including mowing, planting and caring for trees and shrubs. Duties may include snow removal and assisting with events, with roughly 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities include operating landscaping equipment, performing manual labor, and following safety procedures in varied weather conditions. Valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and moderate landscaping/groundskeeping experience.
• Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance such as mowing, trash pickup, weeding and planting in public areas.
• Sets up at multiple locations for events and restores areas afterward.
• Maintains park facilities, cleans restrooms, performs minor repairs and paints shelters.
• Maintains playground equipment, adds mulch, and installs new equipment.
• Assists with snow removal, seasonal cleanups, and special collections.
