Overview
Position: Seasonal Groundsworker
Introduction: This is a set aside position for a person with a disability. Under the supervision of the Grounds Foreman, performs grounds tasks necessary to meet Landscape contract specifications. Hours are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Pay: $19.82 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Cuts lawns, using hand mower or power mower.
- Trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls, using clippers and edging tools.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears.
- Rakes leaves and cleans or sweeps up litter using spiked stick or broom.
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
- Spreads salt on public passageways.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
- Waters lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler system.
- Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake.
- Operates walking type power mowers, snow blowers, roto tillers or riding mowers when required.
- May operate chain saws, hedge trimmers and other handheld power tools to prune, cultivate, shovel, trim, cut and dig.
- May use tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreaders and lawn roller.
- May perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completed.
