Job summary

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Sainte Genevieve National Historical Park seeks a Gardener (Motor Vehicle Operator) to perform seasonal gardening tasks outdoors or in a greenhouse. The position is open to the first 50 applicants and has an anticipated entry on duty in March 2027.

Duties include applying chemicals under supervision, operating light duty vehicles up to 10,000 pounds, planting, mowing, laying sod, mulching, and maintaining grounds. A background check, U.S.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required; background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Must be at least 18 years old to operate government vehicles and lift at least 40 pounds.
• Uniform required; uniform allowance provided; may work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime or shift work.
• Protective clothing and safety equipment required for pesticide/herbicide application; exposure to chemicals possible.

Responsibilities

• Apply chemicals to plants under supervision and instruction.
• Operate light duty motor vehicles (up to ~10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight).
• Fertilize, seedbeds, transplant, lay sod, mulch, water, and maintain lawns and grounds.
• Mow, edge, water, and maintain grounds; remove debris from grounds and garden areas.
