The City of Blaine, WA, seeks a skilled Boat Captain to operate the Plover ferry during the seasonal period, linking Blaine Harbor to Semiahmoo Resort. This role emphasizes passenger safety, vessel seaworthiness, and excellent service delivery.

Ideal candidates hold a USCG captain’s license and a 25-ton master rating, with prior passenger-vessel experience. The position is seasonal, part-time (20–40 hours weekly May–Sept), and not eligible for benefits.

Qualifications

• Valid U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License (minimum OUPV/Six-Pack).
• 25 Ton Master Captain’s license.
• Experience operating passenger vessels preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate the Plover ferry according to the schedule and routes.
• Conduct pre-departure inspections ensuring seaworthiness and safety compliance.
• Navigate the ferry in varied weather while prioritizing passenger safety and comfort.
• Provide high level of customer service with information about ferry routes and local points of interest.
• Manage passenger boarding and disembarking procedures for safety and efficiency.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning to keep the vessel in optimal condition.
• Respond to emergencies promptly following established protocols.
• Keep logs of trips, maintenance, and incidents.
• Collaborate with Public Works Director to ensure smooth operations.
