Job summary

FAO Schwarz is hiring a Seasonal Day Porter for our New York flagship location. This part-time role focuses on maintaining immaculate store standards while supporting daily operations and ensuring supply levels meet workload demands.

The position emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and teamwork, with 1+ year facilities/housekeeping experience, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and flexible hours across days, evenings, and weekends. Starting wage is $19.00/hr plus incentives and discounts.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in facilities or housekeeping in flagship or premium retail.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal ability.
• Flexible availability across days, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness of all store and break room areas.
• Address maintenance/equipment issues at point of contact or escalate to Leadership as needed.
• Uphold safety standards by wearing PPE, using products correctly and following chemical guidelines.
• Daily floor cleaning: sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.
• Daily ceiling, vent and visual prop cleaning.
• Routine restroom cleaning throughout the day.
• Routine trash removal in store and break room to trash compactor.
• Dusting and cleaning all surfaces.
• Maintenance and upkeep of cleaning equipment, supplies, and products.
• Report repairs and safety concerns when encountered.
• Follow health and safety guidelines and chemical-use procedures.

The Seasonal Day Porter is responsible for delivering the FAO Schwarz brand to our team and guests by completing thorough housekeeping tasks in line with daily checklists. This part‑time role is responsible for ensuring store standards are impeccable throughout the day and maintaining supply levels to fully complete the workload each day.

Part-time (20 - 29 hours a week)

What You’ll Do

As a Day Porter, you will:

• Maintain the cleanliness of all areas within the store and break room areas.
• Address maintenance/equipment issues at point of contact or escalating concerns to Leadership as needed.
• Ensure that all safety standards are upheld by wearing protective equipment when necessary, using products and tools correctly, and following all guidelines concerning mixing potentially hazardous chemicals.
• Daily cleaning of floor; sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.
• Daily cleaning of ceiling, vents and visual props.
• Perform routine cleaning of restrooms throughout the day.
• Perform routine trash removal in store and break room area to trash compactor.
• Dusting and cleaning of all surfaces.
• Maintenance and upkeep of all cleaning equipment, supplies, and products.
• Report all repairs needed and safety issues when encountered on the job.
• Follow all health and safety guidelines.
• Follow all procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

This role aligns with Level 1 in our Career Framework and provides a strong foundation for progression into Specialist roles (Level 2).

You don’t need to be perfect, just organized, dependable, and genuinely invested in making the boutique run well.

• 1+ year experience in a facilities or housekeeping role in a flagship or premium retail environment.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, and bending, twisting, and standing for long periods of time.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal ability.
• Ability to work with pace to achieve workload out of hours and during trading times.
• Flexible availability in line with a Flagship Retail environment across days, evenings and weekends.

Retail, hospitality experience is a plus. Curiosity and attitude matter most.
