Job summary

University of Utah's Pioneer Theatre Company seeks a Cutter/Draper to create patterns and cut fabric from the designer's drawings. This is a full-time, seasonal position with no work available during the summer months, and includes a possibility of continued employment in future seasons.

You will meet with the designer, develop patterns, make muslin tests, fit with the actor, and oversee garment construction and repairs.

Qualifications

• Two years sewing in a costume shop or equivalent experience.
• Two years pattern drafting and draping experience.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Meets with the designer to discuss rendering, fabrics and design details.
• Develops the pattern and determines muslin testing needs.
• Creates muslin and passes to the stitcher for sewing; conducts fittings with actors.
• Fits muslin with the designer's satisfaction and applies necessary changes.
• Cuts fabrics and stitches costumes after drafting and cutting are completed.
• Keeps the shop tidy and supports fittings for ready-to-wear items.
