Job summary

RockSol Consulting Group, Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector to oversee road, highway, and bridge construction projects in Colorado.

You will ensure quality and safety, review contractor work, maintain accurate daily reports, and provide progress, safety, quality, schedule, and budget status to the project engineer. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and at least 3 years of relevant experience, with strong communication skills and a willingness to travel to job sites

Qualifications

  • Obtain and maintain required certifications for position.
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Willing to travel to job sites across Colorado or western U.S.
  • Knowledge of safety and labor laws and QA principles.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction of roads, highways and bridges to assure quality and safety.
  • Review, inspect, test and measure contractor work for contract compliance.
  • Recommend approval or rejection of completed work and payment.
  • Maintain accurate daily records and required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget.
  • Recommend project-related decisions based on construction performance and progress.
  • Analyze construction schedules using MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent.
  • Prepare documentation for contract change orders or modifications.
  • Communicate project details and concerns to the project engineer promptly.
  • Calculate and estimate quantities and costs of materials for project phases.
  • Adhere to RockSol's internal Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles per company procedures.
  • Perform other construction inspection assignments as needed.

Job description

The Construction Inspector provides construction inspection activities on assigned road construction projects. Must maintain positive working relationships with project engineers, contractors, subconsultants, clients, the traveling public and CDOT or FHWA staff. Must adhere to quality assurance and safety standards. Required to maintain accurate progress reports in accordance with project requirements. Will provide inspection of construction activity in order to ensure the quality of construction and compliance with project plans, contracts, specifications, and special provisions.

Requirements
  • Serve as a construction inspector for transportation projects by overseeing construction of roads, highways and bridges to assure quality and safety in the construction of these facilities.
  • Review, inspect, test and/or measure the work of the contractors and consultants to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Recommend to the project engineer approval and payment for acceptable and completed work, or rejection of non-conforming work.
  • Maintain accurate daily record of construction site activities and produce required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget status.
  • Recommend project-related decisions based on assessment of construction performance and progress relative to contract requirements.
  • Analyze construction schedules utilizing standard scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent.
  • Prepare documentation in support of contract change orders or modifications when requested by the project engineer.
  • Initiate communication of project-related details and concerns to the project engineer in a timely manner.
  • Calculate and estimate all quantities and costs of materials that will be required for individual phases or elements of the project.
  • Adhere to the requirements of RockSol's internal Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles according to company procedures.
  • Other construction inspection assignments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and maintain attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Must possess competent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications for position.
  • Must meet internal requirements for operation of company vehicles throughout duration of employment and must maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods. Job sites may be located throughout Colorado or in western U.S.
  • Working knowledge of safety and labor laws and requirements, quality control and quality assurance principles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous project management and/or inspection experience on DOT or FHWA road construction projects.
  • Current Professional Engineer license.
  • Construction materials testing experience.
Work Environment
  • Work locations include road construction sites and field offices with regular exposure to all types of weather conditions during field work.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends if necessary to comply with client requirements and/or to meet project deadlines.
  • Loud noise levels at times (hearing protection provided).
  • Must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Overnight travel may be required with this position.
