Job summary

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking a part-time Communications Internship in the Communications Department. Normal work week is Monday through Friday with some weekend hours, averaging 10 to 20 hours per week, September 2026 through December 2026.

This is a seasonal, at-will position with benefits limited to state and federal-required insurance; dates may shift with budget approvals. Duties include writing press releases, assisting with website and social media, helping with Springs TV

Qualifications

• Current full-time junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Administration or related field.
• GPA of 2.5 or higher required.
• Strong writing and communication skills with ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

SEASONAL - Communications Internship – PT Internship

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking an intern for the Communications Department. Normal work week is Monday through Friday with some weekend hours. Hours will be flexible averaging from 10 to 20 hours per week.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).

Approximate dates of employment will be September 2026 - December 2026. Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.

Essential Job Functions:

• Write press releases
• Assist with website and social media
• Assist with writing, producing, recording and on-air for Springs TV
• Assist with City events (some weekends) which includes photography
• Assist with general administration and office duties
• Assist with compiling media coverage for daily staff distribution
• Ability to handle duties with a high degree of accuracy
