Scheels All Sports, Inc. in West Des Moines, IA is seeking seasonal cashiers to greet customers, provide personalized service, process transactions, promote the Scheels Visa and digital receipts, and maintain the checkout area.

You’ll balance cash, operate the register, and assist during varied schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Orientation is required on specified dates; the role ends after 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–3 months of cashiering experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet all customers with a smile when entering and exiting the store.
• Engage in conversation to provide personalized service and promote digital receipt program.
• Scan items accurately and ensure correct payment before customer leaves.
• Balance the cash drawer and operate the computerized register.
• Promote Scheels Visa and explain benefits; request sign-up for digital receipts.
• Maintain clean checkout area and restock as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Greet all customers with a smile when entering and exiting the store
• Enhance the customer experience by engaging in conversation while providing personalized service and consistently meeting the goals of the digital receipt program
• Accurately scan every item customers are purchasing, ensuring all merchandise is properly rung through and paid for before the customer leaves the store
• Treat merchandise with care, and bag purchases carefully and efficiently
• Promote the Scheels Visa card and clearly explain all benefits
• Ask every customer to sign up for digital receipts
• End each transaction by saying “thank you” to every customer
• Perform basic math, calculate discounts, make change, and accurately balance the cash drawer
• Operate the computerized register system and follow all cash handling policies
• Maintain an awareness of in-store events and promotions
• Keep the checkout area stocked and clean

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• 1-3 months of cashiering experience preferred

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.

Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Schedule:

Schedule may include varied hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays, must be available minimum of two weekends a month.

This position will end after 60 days of employment. You must be available to attend an orientation on 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, or 11/23 in the evening.

Seasonal associates will have a one time purchase, using a store discount.
