Job summary

The Fresh Market in New Jersey is seeking a Seafood Specialist to lead seafood department excellence, ensuring product freshness, accurate presentation, and strict adherence to food-safety standards. You will own inventory accuracy, rotation, and readiness for promotions while delivering exceptional guest experiences.

This role requires attention to detail, multitasking ability, and a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in retail, grocery, restaurant, or hospitality operations.
• Strong attention to detail with organizational skills, ability to multitask, and work at a fast pace.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Experience with electronic shelf label systems, inventory management technology, or AI-enabled retail tools.

Responsibilities

• Ensure seafood products meet freshness and quality standards.
• Execute planograms and maintain product placement and signage.
• Coordinate with department leadership on ordering and replenishment of seafood items.
• Verify deliveries for accuracy and freshness.
• Support front-end operations as cashier during peak times.

About the Position

Are you known for your attention to detail and multitasking? Ready to take charge behind the scenes and keep our store moving at full speed? As the Seafood Specialist, you will be the store’s point person for seafood department excellence, ensuring product freshness, merchandising accuracy, and compliance with food safety standards. This role embodies passion, excellence, hospitality, and teamwork, delivering an exceptional guest experience while maintaining operational integrity. You will own seafood inventory accuracy, rotation standards, and presentation, while supporting guest engagement and department readiness for promotions and seasonal events.

The pay range for this position is $18.48 - $19.71 per hour.

What You’ll Do

• Ensure all seafood products meet freshness and quality standards, including proper rotation and dating.
• Execute planograms and maintain accurate product placement and signage.
• Coordinate with department leadership on ordering and replenishment of seafood items.
• Verify deliveries for accuracy and freshness, ensuring proper receiving and storage procedures.
• Play a key role in compliance during key item transitions and promotional events.Execute planograms and maintain accurate product placement and signage.
• Support front-end operations during peak business times as a cashier or in other areas.
• Engage guests with a friendly, helpful approach when on the sales floor.

Availability

This position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, days, evenings, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail with organizational skills, ability to multitask, and work at a fast pace.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Retail, culinary, and/or grocery experience.
• Experience with electronic shelf label systems, inventory management technology, or AI-enabled retail tools.

Physical And Work Conditions

• Repetitive hand/arm movements, grasping, bending, reaching, ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds by oneself, and exposure to extreme temperatures.
• Ability to use tools and equipment: knives, ladders, stepstools, box cutters, pallet jacks, and other equipment.
• Required to spend long periods of time on their feet and stand or walk without a break (for up to 4 hours or as required by law).
• Required to wear an approved hat, hair net, and/or beard guard, and personal protective equipment.
