Job summary

Weis Markets is seeking a dependable team member for the seafood department. You will help keep the area stocked, assist customers with seafood selection, and support order fulfillment and special requests.

The role includes setting up displays, ensuring accurate pricing and signage, maintaining freshness, and following safety procedures. Training is provided, and opportunities to work across departments exist. A high school diploma or GED is preferred; no prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Keeps seafood area well stocked and appealing; greets customers and provides information on seafood preparation.
• Sets up displays and rotates product; ensures seafood is fresh and properly priced with signage; handles near-expiry items per procedures.
• Weighs and wraps merchandise; applies price/weight stickers; maintains logs for freshness and quality; follows safety codes.
• Maintains sanitation; follows cleaning schedules; keeps work areas clean and compliant with health and OSHA requirements; disposes of trash properly.
• Assists with inventory control; helps minimize losses by returning products to refrigeration; reports shortages or overages to management.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries; training provided.
• May assist with baling cardboard or related duties; training provided.
• Cooperates with coworkers; strives for continuous improvement; uses PPE as required.
• May be called to assist in other departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

• Keeps seafood area well stocked and appealing to meet customer requirements. Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions and provides information on seafood preparation. Takes orders for future delivery and helps fill special requests.Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
• Sets up displays and rotates product as needed. Ensures that seafood is fresh, in saleable condition with proper prices and signage. Handles product that is spoiled, damaged or close to expiration as detailed by company procedures and standards. Removes product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
• Weighs and wraps merchandise for customers and applies sticker showing price and weight. Maintains necessary logs to track freshness and quality. Adheres to all food and personal safety codes when handling product or utilizing kitchen tools.
• Responsible for general sanitation of the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
• Helps manager control inventory through proper ordering.Helps minimize losses by returning products to refrigeration. Reports shortages or overages to manager.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack if properly trained. Training provided.
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained. Training provided.
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors. Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
• Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc.
• May also be called upon to assist in other departments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position currently has no supervisor responsibilities.
