Weis Markets, Inc. in Hampstead, MD is hiring a Seafood Department Associate to stock, display, and assist customers with seafood selection. You will greet customers, take special orders, ensure freshness, and maintain signage and pricing while following safety standards.

This role emphasizes teamwork, reliable attendance, and adherence to PPE guidelines. Starting wage is $15.00 per hour with a path to $22.00 based on performance and tenure, plus benefits and an employee discount program.

Responsibilities

• Keeps seafood area stocked, greets customers, and assists with seafood preparation and orders.
• Sets up displays, ensures freshness, correct pricing and signage, and removes non-saleable product.
• Weighs and wraps merchandise, applies price/weight stickers, and tracks freshness.
• Maintains sanitation, follows health and safety codes, and disposes of trash properly.
• Helps control inventory and minimize losses; reports shortages or overages.
• Assists with receiving, unloading, and storing deliveries with training provided.
• May assist other departments as needed to ensure store throughput.
• Follows PPE usage and safety protocols in all tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

• Keeps seafood area well stocked and appealing to meet customer requirements. Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions and provides information on seafood preparation. Takes orders for future delivery and helps fill special requests.Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
• Sets up displays and rotates product as needed. Ensures that seafood is fresh, in saleable condition with proper prices and signage. Handles product that is spoiled, damaged or close to expiration as detailed by company procedures and standards. Removes product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
• Weighs and wraps merchandise for customers and applies sticker showing price and weight. Maintains necessary logs to track freshness and quality. Adheres to all food and personal safety codes when handling product or utilizing kitchen tools.
• Responsible for general sanitation of the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
• Helps manager control inventory through proper ordering.Helps minimize losses by returning products to refrigeration. Reports shortages or overages to manager.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack if properly trained. Training provided.
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained. Training provided.
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors. Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
• Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc.
• May also be called upon to assist in other departments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position currently has no supervisor responsibilities.

RATE OF PAY AND BENEFITS

The hourly rate for this position starts at $15.00 and goes up to $22.00.
