Job summary

Calvert County Government's Department of Parks & Recreation seeks a seasonal swimming instructor to provide instruction on competitive swimming techniques and assist the Swim Coach with training plans and meet preparations.

You will work evenings and weekends, supervise athletes during competitions, and help prepare facilities for practices and events. CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required; USA Swimming Coach Certification is preferred or must be obtained within 3 months.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern swimming techniques.
• Ability to deal effectively with the public.
• CPR/First Aid/AED Certification required.
• Two years of competitive swimming experience; six months teaching learn-to-swim or stroke development.

Responsibilities

• Assist Swim Coach with preparing workout plans for various athlete levels.
• Teach competitive swimming techniques as assigned.
• Assist with meet seeding.
• Help prepare the facility for practices and competitions.
• Supervise athletes during swimming competitions.

Job description

Provides instruction on competitive swimming techniques for a competitive swim program. Prepares participants for swimming competition by assisting the Swim Coach in implementing appropriate training for the age groups.

Essential Job Functions

Assists Swim Coach with preparing workout plans as required for the various levels of athlete.

Teaches competitive swimming techniques as assigned.

Assists Swim Coach with meet seeding.

Assists with preparation of the facility to carry out practices and competitions.

Assists with athlete supervision during swimming competitions.

Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Training and/or Education:

CPR/First Aid/AED Certified

Experience:

Two years of competitive swimming. Six months experience teaching learn to swim classes or stroke development classes.

Licenses or Certificates:

USA Swimming Coach Certification preferred or must be successfully obtained within 3 months of hire.

Special Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age or have work permit.

Subject to background investigation.

Physical Demands:

Work requires medium to heavy physical effort.

Unusual Demands:

Works evenings and weekends.

Compensation Steps:

Pay rate: $20.00 per hour
