The NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking an Electronics Technician III (S) to install, commission, and service HVAC building automation systems across facilities. Your role includes managing work orders, procuring materials, and maintaining records of requisitions and purchasing card transactions.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in electronics and three years of progressive experience in repair/maintenance of complex electronic systems.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining complex electronic systems, including some responsibility for design or modification.
  • Licensure may be required by the governing board or commission depending on work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conduit/raceway installation, wire pulling, device mounting, and field termination tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electronic metering and HVAC automation components.

  • Complete and document HVAC BAS related work orders in accordance with standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of requisitions, direct billing, and purchasing card transactions.
  • Ensure materials, tools, and supplies for BAS maintenance are procured properly.
  • Follow safety protocols and agency policies during all installation and service activities.

It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

The SE&R Field Services Technician (Electronics Technician III) will provide technical support to regional and institutional maintenance teams in commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex electronic metering systems used throughout Department of Adult Correction facilities. This role involves hands on installation and startup of new HVAC building automation systems, as well as ongoing maintenance and repair of existing systems. The specialist will also complete work orders, document service activities, and manage material procurement related to HVAC BAS operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all materials, tools, and supplies required for BAS maintenance are properly procured.
  • Follow safety protocols and adhere to agency policies during all installation and service activities.

This position will be assigned a State-owned vehicle for business use only. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Management Preferences

Salary Range: $50088-87654 Pay Grade: NC13 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Working knowledge of electronic principles, devices, and/or systems related to building automation systems.
  • Working knowledge of complex electronic systems with emphasis on responsive analysis, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Working knowledge of ethernet networking principles and systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, architects, engineers, contractors, maintenance personnel, and working offenders to accomplish the assigned work tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, and/or Outlook.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus OR An equivalent combination of training and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
