Job summary

Job Description

Under the direction of the Art Gallery Coordinator, the Museum Student Aide will assist with gallery activities including the implementation of gallery exhibitions, visitor services, event coordination, and clerical duties related to gallery activities. Additional responsibilities include the development of engaging content to promote exhibitions and programs and to build awareness of gallery activities.

Basic Function

Performs a variety of clerical and/or manual related duties that are usually semi-skilled in nature and may require only limited skill, training or experience. Learns role on the job. Requires basic knowledge of administrative activities and procedures within work area. Exchanges information with co-workers, staff within the District and the community. May require completion of certain courses to qualify.

Qualifications

Education: Knowledge and proficiency with social media is preferred.

Experience: Demonstrated interest in art/art history is preferred. Experience with photography and design applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva is preferred.

Other: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Flexibility to work non-traditional hours and manage tight schedules. Ability to work independently if needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, including painting/patching walls, proper art handling, packing, and hanging, completion of condition reports and regular caretaking of artwork on display.
  • Assist with visitor services, including maintaining regular gallery hours, greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing general information.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of gallery events and tours, including scheduling, promotion, set-up, and breakdown as relevant for gallery activities.
  • Assist with recordkeeping related to gallery/event attendance and supply needs.
  • Assist with maintaining the general cleanliness of the gallery, especially through regular sweeping and window cleaning.
Conditions of Employment

Jobs only available to Moreno Valley Students who have Moreno Valley College as their Home Campus. Must be enrolled in at least half-time units (6 units for Fall and Spring and 3 units for Winter and Summer). Must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0.
*IF funded by Federal Work Study (FWS) Grant or Cal Works Work Study (CWS) grant, students must maintain eligibility for the FWS grant to maintain the position.

Work Hours and Days

Hours will be agreed upon by supervisor and student upon offer of position. Hours will vary accordingly: Mon - Friday. Student Employees are limited to 20 hours per week and 8 hours per day (max).
