Gensler in Washington, DC seeks an Interior Designer who blends bold creativity with technical delivery for sports and entertainment venues.

You will lead concept to construction documentation, document FF&E, finishes, lighting, and millwork, and coordinate with consultants and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture.
  • 6–10 years interior design experience, incl. 4+ years on sports venues.
  • Proficient with Revit, SketchUp, 3ds Max and other modeling tools.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • NCIDQ/CID on path; sustainability focus preferred.
  • Not remote; Washington, DC office location.

Responsibilities

  • Visioning and programming for interior design projects, space planning, schematic design and documentation.
  • Document FF&E, color palettes, finishes and lighting selections.
  • Create finish plans, lighting plans, millwork drawings and details.
  • Provide design leadership and documentation during project execution.
  • Coordinate with external consultants, product reps, furniture dealers and fabricators.
  • Integrate AR/VR and computational design on projects.
  • Support client relationships and business development efforts.
  • Mentor teammates and ensure QA/QC of docs.
  • Elevate design quality and foster a design culture in the office.

Your Role

As a Gensler Interior Designer, you are driven by bold ideas and a passion for design excellence. You have conceptual and technical delivery/documentation design skills for interior architecture and interior design projects, and you have a portfolio showcasing design excellence and innovation. A focus for this role will be interior design and interior architecture for Sports and entertainment venue projects. You are a key member of the design team, you actively contribute throughout the project lifecycle from concept to project completion. You thrive in a collaborative environment, take ownership and are passionate about creating lasting client relationships and memorable spaces.

What You Will Do
  • Visioning and programming for interior design projects, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, shop drawing reviews, code compliance, and construction administration
  • Select and document furniture, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and decorative lighting
  • Generate finish plans, RCPs, lighting plans, specifications, material selections, and millwork drawings and details
  • Provide design leadership and documentation during project execution
  • Coordinate with external consultants, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators
  • Integrate new technology and tools on projects (AR, VR, computational design, etc.)
  • Support design presentations and develop effective client relationships as trusted advisor
  • Support marketing and business development efforts as needed
  • Guide and mentor teammates
  • QA/QC specifications and construction document sets
  • Strive to elevate design quality on every project, and foster and cultivate a culture of design in the office
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
  • 6-10 years of interior design experience, preferably inclusive of at least 4 recent years for Sports projects (arenas, stadiums, clubhouses, training facilities, entertainment venues, stadium amenity spaces)
  • Proficient in Revit, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max and other modeling software programs
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Proficiency with:
  • Selection of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications
  • Interior construction documents
  • Applicable codes and safety considerations
  • Strong storytelling ability, both verbal and written, that conveys purpose and impact
  • Strong graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas
  • NCIDQ/CID certification (if you are on the path to certification, please feel free to contact nicole_kumar@gensler.com to determine whether there may be another role that is aligned with your background)
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices; Ideally portfolios will include at least one project (especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and/or Net Zero Building certification) with this particular focus
  • This role is not remote or hybrid; we look forward to working with our new team member in our dynamic Washington, D.C. office.
  • The estimated base salary range for this position is $82,000 - $100,000, plus eligibility for bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, with final compensation contingent on relevant experience.
