Job summary

MercyOne Clinton Medical Center seeks an experienced Registered Nurse (SDS/PACU) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care across ages. You will work within a team, coordinate admissions, transfers and discharges, and deliver care per Nurse Practice Act and MercyOne policies.

The role requires an Iowa RN license, plus BSN preferred and BLS certification. You will participate in performance improvement, and may rotate shifts with weekend/holiday coverage as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in nursing required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Current Iowa RN license.
  • Operating Room experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
  • Collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers nursing care to patients including assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the care plan with physician coordination.
  • Delivers nursing care guided by orders, protocols and professional judgment.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, patients and families.
  • Participates in ongoing clinical education and professional development.
  • Ensures patient safety, autonomy and rights in care delivery.
  • Maintains documentation in the hospital information system and patient records.

In addition to a wide range of traditional hospital services, MercyOne Clinton provides a continuum of care with specialized services in wound care, radiation oncology, dialysis, imaging, sleep disorders, therapy services, and skilled care. As a Registered Nurse at MercyOne, you will provide individualized, high quality nursing care to patients of all ages. Use a team approach to delegate and coordinate patient care at admission, transfer, and discharge. Independently delivers nursing care using the Nurse Practice Act, MercyOne policies, nursing standards, ethical principles, and professional judgment. Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Job duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific.

Essential Functions
  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviours, practices, and decisions.
  • Administers nursing care to patients; includes assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the patient’s care plan in coordination with the physician.
  • Provides nursing care guided by physician orders, unit protocols and professional judgment.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with staff, physicians, patients, families and other healthcare team members.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities related to clinical knowledge and professional issues.
  • Contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues by sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Considers factors relating to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning/delivering patient care.
  • Provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling in recognition and solution of physical, emotional, and environmental health problems.
  • Utilizes hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information.
  • Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients’ records.
  • Works independently with limited direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, MercyOne policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment.
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices).
  • Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
  • Complies with OSHA/JCAHO and other regulatory agency recommendations and guidelines.
  • Assists with clerical duties (i.e., maintenance of charge, patient record, answering phones and call lights, processing physician orders.
  • Maintains patient care supplies, equipment, and environment.
  • Provides orientation/education for staff, students, and other hospital and community organizations as requested.
  • Supports and participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects.
  • Attends departmental and other meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Schedule
  • Hours flex from 0600-1730, Monday-Friday. 24 hour/7 day a week call coverage is rotated among staff. Holiday call coverage also rotated among staff. Call requires 30 minutes response time.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degreein nursingrequired.
  • Bachelor ofScience inNursing (BSN)preferred.
  • Current Iowa RNlicense,
  • Operating Room experience preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.
