Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in Seattle seeks a Software Development Engineer (SDE2) for the Bottlerocket team. You will design, build, and maintain open-source, security-first container OS components that run on millions of hosts.

You will write Rust and Go, contribute to GitHub, and tackle Linux internals, security hardening, and performance while enabling CI/CD and release tooling for rapid OS delivery across EKS and ECS.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience.
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Bottlerocket OS components in Rust and Go.
• Own features end-to-end from design through production with autonomy.
• Contribute to open-source code on GitHub and participate in code reviews.
• Investigate and resolve complex systems issues spanning kernel to orchestrator integrations (EKS, ECS).
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, release tooling, and automated testing.
• Harden security defaults and OS-level protections.
• Collaborate with EKS, ECS, and security teams to design integrations.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design feedback.
• Participate in on-call rotations and operational excellence for production infra.
• Write technical design docs and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
