Job summary

The Department of Art at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sculpture beginning August 2027. We seek a practicing artist with substantial expertise in metalwork and casting to advance contemporary sculpture through material experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

  • MFA or terminal degree in sculpture, studio art, or related field by the time of appointment.
  • Active, nationally or internationally recognized creative practice in sculpture appropriate to career stage.
  • 3+ years of university-level teaching experience in casting, metal fabrication, welding, or related sculptural processes.
  • Ability to teach sculpture across multiple levels of undergraduate education.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two undergraduate courses per semester, including introductory and advanced sculpture with emphasis on casting and metal fabrication.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program planning, including foundations and outcomes across courses.
  • Advise and mentor MFA students, participate in reviews, and serve on thesis committees.
  • Engage in professional practice and community partnerships within the region.
