Job summary

Jackson County Hospital District in Marianna, FL is seeking an experienced RN for an acute care/SCU role. The nurse will monitor hemodynamics, perform comprehensive assessments, and coordinate care across disciplines.

Responsibilities include developing individualized care plans, teaching patients and families, and assisting physicians with procedures within SCU and related units. Florida RN licensure, BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required or obtained within 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Current Florida RN license required.
  • At least 2 years in recent critical care preferred.
  • ACLS and PALS certification required within 12 months.
  • BLS certification required.

  • Develop and revise individualized care plans based on patient response.
  • Provide patient and family teaching and include family in planning.
  • Identify dysrhythmias and treat per ACLS protocol.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care across departments.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the SCU and other units.
  • Maintain documentation to current standards and policies.

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general population.
  • Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment, and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.
  • Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status.
  • Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures both in the SCU and in other departments.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Ability to assess and care for patients in the post anesthesia period, both in the PACU and SCU.
  • Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s ethics and compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital hotline.
  • Employee adheres to and practices the standards of performance outlines in the Standards of Performance handbook.
Requirements
Regulatory Requirements
  • Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
  • Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • Two or more years of recent critical care experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of critical care orientation preferred.
  • BLS certification.
  • SCU
  • ACLS and PALS required within one year.
  • PCU
  • ACLS and PALS highly recommended.
