Job summary

Capitol Careers LLC is seeking a Sr. Scrum Master for a large Federal Consulting Firm. This is a Remote / Contract-to-Hire role with a preference for candidates on the East Coast (DC/MD/VA).

Responsibilities

• Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement to maintain team alignment and delivery momentum.
• Partner with Product Owners and stakeholders to maintain a prioritized backlog with clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and actionable tasks.
• Manage the Jira board, keeping work items, ownership, dependencies, and delivery status accurate and current.
• Support sprint capacity planning and realistic commitments, coordinating priorities across distributed team members.
• Identify and help resolve blockers, escalating risks, dependencies, and delivery concerns to project leadership.
• Monitor sprint metrics, including velocity, burndown, and progress against sprint goals, to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare status updates for client and internal leadership, clearly communicating accomplishments, upcoming work, risks, and decisions needed.
• Maintain project documentation, meeting outcomes, and action items in Confluence.
• Coordinate across technical and non-technical stakeholders to clarify requirements, manage dependencies, and support delivery.
• Coach team members on Agile practices and follow through on retrospective actions to improve collaboration and execution.

Capitol Careers is currently in search of a Sr. Scrum Master for a large Federal Consulting Firm.

This is a Remote / Contract-to-Hire position. However, candidates local to DC/MD/VA and/or East Coast are highly preferred.

Position Overview:

Capitol Careers is partnering with a leading federal advisory firm to identify a Scrum Master supporting a federal health engagement with a large Federal Health Agency.

This role will lead day-to-day Agile delivery for a distributed technical team, facilitating Scrum ceremonies, maintaining backlog readiness, removing impediments, and providing clear delivery reporting. The ideal candidate combines practical Scrum experience with strong organizational skills and the ability to work directly with clients in a consulting environment.

Experience supporting Federal Health Agencies/Programs and/or Big Four consulting experience is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

• 4–7 years of relevant experience in Agile delivery, technical project coordination, or consulting, including experience serving as a Scrum Master or Agile Delivery Lead.
• Experience leading Agile delivery for technical projects in a client-facing consulting environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Jira and Confluence for backlog management, sprint tracking, documentation, and reporting.
• Strong understanding of Scrum practices, user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, and continuous improvement.
• Strong facilitation and organizational skills, with the ability to keep distributed teams aligned and coordinated.
• Experience working across technical teams, business stakeholders, and project leadership.
• Ability to identify delivery risks, manage competing priorities, and coordinate resolution of impediments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain delivery status and issues to varied audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting Federal Health Programs/Agencies.
• Big Four consulting experience, particularly within federal advisory or government technology engagements.
• Existing Public Trust status; not required for consideration.
• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or a comparable Agile certification.
