Job summary

CentraState Medical Center seeks a Scrub Technician I for the Labor & Delivery, Recovery, & Postpartum (LDRP) unit. You will scrub on surgical cases under RN supervision, assist in preparing for procedures, and participate in on-call coverage for off-hours, weekends, and holidays.

The role requires completion of a surgical technology program and CPR certification, with strong teamwork and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of a nationally or regionally accredited surgical technology training program.
  • Completion of an OR Technician program.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Strong professional, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures.
  • Be in the room and ready to start by 7:00 a.m.
  • Report defective equipment to Biomed and resource nurse.
  • Obtain extra equipment as needed for procedures.
  • Anticipate needs of the surgeon and instrument requirements.
  • Open sterile supplies using proper technique.
  • Label medications and solutions used on the surgical field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of drugs used in surgery.
  • Arrange instruments for the procedure.
  • Maintain the surgical field in an organized fashion.
  • Understand sterilization and decontamination concepts.
  • Provide respectful patient-centered care and support patient decisions.

Scrub Technician I

Overview

Labor & Delivery, Recovery, & Postpartum (LDRP): Experience a unit where you can contribute to roughly over 700 births annually, and then go on to care for those new moms and babies during the postpartum period. With the highly appealing nurse to patient ratios of 1 to 1 or 2 for laboring patients and 1 to 3 mother-baby couplets, this is the perfect unit to establish or progress your career in the fulfilling specialty of obstetrics/maternal-child health. The patient population on this unit encompasses care of the antepartum and intrapartum patient during the labor process and/or cesarean section, and care of the mom and newborn couplet after delivery. Additional opportunities exist to hone and enhance skills in breastfeeding/lactation, fetal monitoring, bereavement training, OR training, and potential cross-training to the neonatal unit. With self-scheduling and experienced management, experience a highly fulfilling specialty of obstetrics in a flexible, teamwork-based environment.

CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity available for a Scrub Technician in the LDRP Unit. The Scrub Technician functions as a member of the surgical team under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role performs scrub duties on surgical cases and assists the RN in preparing for surgical procedures. On-call coverage for off-hours, weekends, and holidays is expected.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains aseptic technique throughout surgical procedure. Reports and breaks in technique to surgeon and circulator.
  • Is in room and ready to start by 7:00 a.m.
  • Reports any defective equipment immediately to Biomed department and to resource nurse.
  • Obtains extra equipment necessary for surgical procedure.
  • Observes progress of procedure/surgery and demonstrates an ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and possible need for additional instruments and supplies.
  • Opens sterile supplies using appropriate technique.
  • Clarifies name and expiration of medication with circulator.
  • Labels all medications and solutions used on surgical field.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of drug actions used in surgery.
  • Arranges instruments and supplies properly for specific procedure.
  • Maintains surgical field in orderly fashion to facilitate accessibility and relief by another staff member.
  • Returns supplies to proper areas.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the function of the sterilization and decontamination principles.
  • Provides considerate respectful care focused on the patients’ individual needs.
  • Affirms the patient’s right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the age of the patients cared for. Demonstrates an understanding of the range of care needed based on the age of the patients cared for. Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development and /or adult health throughout the life span as appropriate to the job performed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for surgical technologists. Must have completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps OR Coast Guard of the United States. The certification must be held and maintained by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
  • Successful completion of OR Technician program.
  • Previous related experience a plus.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

Compensation Range: $23.00 - $36.80 per hour
