Job summary

Mcfarland Eye Care is seeking a surgical scrub tech to support ophthalmic procedures. You will prepare the OR, set up sterile tables, and assist the surgeon and circulator to maintain a sterile field throughout surgeries.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, CPR certification, and at least 6 months of scrub tech experience. The job is Monday–Friday with paid holidays, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for growth.

  • At least 6 months surgical scrub tech experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and medical record requirements.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room for eye surgery following sterile techniques.
  • Ensure adequate supplies, instruments, and equipment are ready for the procedure.
  • Set up sterile table with instruments and supplies; assist circulator with equipment prep.
  • Gown and glove the surgeon and assist with patient draping.
  • Maintain sterile field and dispose of materials properly; prep room for next patient.
  • Assist in proofreading and filing surgical charts; review charts for accuracy.

Must have an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of their surgeon for the day. Must maintain the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during operative procedures and be constantly vigilant to maintain a sterile field.Essential Functions:Prepare the operating room for surgery following established protocols and maintaining proper sterile techniques to insure the safety of the patient and team members.Insure that adequate supplies are available for the surgical procedure.Turn on and/or check equipment to make sure that it is in working order and ready for surgery.Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.Assist Circulator with equipment preparation.Gowns and gloves surgeon and apply body draping to patient. Assist surgeon in removing gown and gloves and remove patient body draping.Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization following established protocols.Dispose of all materials on each case in a proper container. Assists in prepping the room for the next patient.Assist with proofreading surgery charts before they are filed.As assigned review surgical charts for accuracy and prepare new surgical chartsCheck all supplies in rooms on a regular basis to assure that no supplies are outdated.Perform daily tasks and environmental checklists.EducationRequired:High School diploma or equivalent.Experience/Skills/Other RequirementsRequired:Ability to work in a professional, positive and pleasant way with other team members.Typing ability of 35 wpm.Communicate clearly and effectively with patients and team members.React calmly and effectively in stressful situations.CPR Certified.Desired:At least 6 months surgical scrub tech experience.Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and medical record requirements.Physical/Mental Demands:Regularly stand and walkOccasional stress from workload or from dealing with upset patients or emergency situations.Normal vision and hearing needed.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
