Job summary

Ankle & Foot Centers is seeking a Medical Scribe to support physicians by documenting visits, procedures and orders in the electronic health record to improve clinic efficiency in a busy setting.

You will anticipate physician needs, maintain accurate charts, and ensure complete documentation while remaining discreet. A high school diploma is required; travel to other offices may be necessary. Epic experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately document medical visits and procedures as performed by the physician.
• Document medical history, exams, procedures, diagnoses, prescriptions and follow-up instructions.
• Complete various forms (Physical Therapy, MRI, Surgery, Letters).
• Identify inconsistencies in medical documentation to reduce errors.
• Alert physician when chart is incomplete.

Job description

Medical Scribes are individuals who assist a physician throughout their shift. The primary goal of a Medical Scribe is to increase the efficiency and the productivity of the physician they are working for. The Medical Scribe allows the doctor to focus on what is most important, the patient. Performing all clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting. This includes primary responsibility of the operation of the electronic health records.

You also must be able to anticipate physician needs in order to facilitate the flow of clinic. Medical Scribes must be discreet and tactful in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care.

Responsibilities and Duties

Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:

• Patient medical history and physical exams
• Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals
• Medical Terminology
• Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
• Completing various forms, including; Physical Therapy, MRI, Surgery
• Completing Letters (employment, school excuses)

Dropping Charges

• Coding/Charge Entry

Medical Scribes also identity inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors. Medical Scribes ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Alert physician when chart is incomplete.

Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are especially important when working as a Medical Scribe. Ability to be adaptable and versatile due to being responsible for many tasks. Any other duties determined appropriate by management.

Light travel to other offices may be required for business needs.

Preferences

At least one (1) year of experience preferred, Epic experience is preferred.

Work Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, reach and squat. The employee is also regularly required to type and perform work using a computer. Employee duties will frequently require verbal communication with patients. Occasional lifting up to 30lbs and assisting patients in and out of the patient chair.
