Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Machine Manufacturing Engineer for its Oxford, NC site. The role focuses on optimizing screw machine operations, tooling configurations, and process documentation to maximize throughput and quality.

The ideal candidate has 8–10 years of hands-on screw machine experience, blue‑print literacy, and solid CAD skills. This is an on-site, permanent position with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8–10 years hands‑on experience with Acme-Gridley multi-spindle screw machines.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand cams, gears and mechanical gearing.
• Proficient in grinding and setting form tools, shaving tools, drills and cutoffs.

Responsibilities

• Develop cutting speeds, feeds, tooling geometry and machining sequences to maximize productivity.
• Design tooling layouts, cam configurations, tool sequences and machine setups.
• Create setup docs and process instructions for manufacturing processes.

Job Title: Machine Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

Responsibilities

• Develop optimum cutting speeds, feeds, tooling geometry, cycle times, and machining sequences to maximize productivity.
• Design tooling layouts, cam configurations, tooling sequences, and machine setups for screw machine operations.
• Create standardized setup documentation and process instructions for manufacturing processes.
• Perform complex machine setups and obtain approval of new jobs to ensure quality standards.
• Optimize existing machine setups to improve throughput, quality, and equipment utilization.
• Provide advanced technical troubleshooting for machining, tooling, and process issues.
• Support production during startups and critical manufacturing challenges.
• Lead initiatives to reduce setup times, scrap, downtime, tooling costs, and cycle times.
• Ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet customer specifications and quality standards.
• Perform first-piece inspections and support root cause investigations for quality concerns.
• Participate in lean manufacturing events and cost reduction initiatives.
• Support corrective and preventive action activities.
• Provide engineering support during customer visits, audits, and new product launches.
• Maintain lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on experience in the setup, operation, and engineering of Acme-Gridley and multi-spindle screw machines.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, as well as an in-depth understanding of cams, gears, and mechanical gearing.
• Proficiency in grinding and setting form tools, shave tools, drills, and cutoffs.
• Solid understanding of shop mathematics, decimals, fractions, and metric conversions.
• Proficient with the use of SolidWorks or similar Engineering Design software for documenting electro-mechanical system designs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• An associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical/manufacturing engineering is preferred.
• Process improvement skills.

Work Environment

Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to support production demands or equipment installations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Oxford, NC.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
