Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to advance trustworthy scientific machine learning and data-driven analysis for computational science applications. On any given day, you may develop ML surrogates, perform V&V/UQ, and collaborate with national labs to benchmark data-driven methods.

PhD conferred within 5 years in a related field and ability to obtain a DOE Q-level clearance are required. Onsite work in Livermore, CA is expected.

Qualifications

• PhD in applied mathematics, computational science, engineering, statistics, computer science, or related field
• Expertise in ML, SciML, UQ, or statistical learning
• Experience developing or evaluating ML methods for simulation, image, signal, or high‑dimensional data
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate ML surrogates and reduced-order models within physics-based simulations
• Plan and perform verification, validation, uncertainty quantification, robustness tests, and explainability studies
• Apply wavelet analysis, tensor/matrix decompositions, and energy-based feature extraction to images, microstructures, sensor data, and high-dimensional outputs
• Collaborate with Sandia PIs, national laboratories, and academic partners to benchmark data-driven methods against high-fidelity models and experiments
