McLaughlin Research Corp. is seeking a Scientist - Tactical Oceanography to join NUWCDIVNPT's Ocean Science, Autonomous Systems and Ranges Department in Newport, RI.

The role focuses on physics-based modeling, data analysis, and integration of TAC-O systems to support warfighter capabilities. The candidate will develop simulations in Matlab or equivalent, process large data sets, and produce technical reports while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• For Scientist III: Master’s Degree with 2+ years experience, preferably in an physical science or engineering discipline.
• Experience with high-power computing or computing cluster environments, using Windows and Linux based systems
• Experience coding large projects in C++ or similar object-oriented language, and maintaining such code in repository management systems (Git)
• Experience organizing, processing and analyzing simulations results in Matlab or similar scripting language
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to work independently and/or with members of integrated project teams in the accomplishment of technical task objectives.
• Current (or ability to be eligible for) US Department of Defense Secret clearance (with an ability to be eligible for a Top Secret Clearance if required for specific tasking)

Job Description

This position will provide engineering and technical support for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) Ocean Science, Autonomous Systems and Ranges Department (Code 75) and associated Tactical Oceanography (TAC-O) stakeholders. Work will primarily occur in-person at NUWCDIVNPT, with periodic travel (if necessary to support task execution). Code 7541 provides integrated oceanographic solutions to the warfighter through technical expertise, cooperative innovation, engineering, and life cycle stewardship. The qualified candidate will support design and development of existing and novel Navy TAC-O systems, support integration of existing equipment or software into different applications or platforms to support the warfighter, and support evaluation of prototype systems, equipment, and technologies to satisfy existing war fighting requirements.

This role specifically seeks a computational scientist with background in the physical sciences, specifically physics, engineering disciplines, computer science, and/or chemistry. The candidate will apply the theories and principles of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems. Routine tasks include developing and running physics-based models and simulations; managing, processing, and analyzing technical data sets in Matlab (or equivalent) environments; automating data analysis tasks; and producing graphical or visual representations of technical data and preparing associated technical reports.
