Job Description

Scientist – SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry) – responsible for the analysis of thin film materials, generating data to support product development and improvement.

Position Overview

Conduct thin film analysis using SIMS, interpret results, prepare detailed technical reports, evaluate customer testing requirements, and manage project quotations, schedules, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive analytical work independently, including complex tasks.
  • Apply standard and non‑standard techniques to determine composition, properties, and structure of materials.
  • Prepare detailed reports on analytical results for customers, including interpretation of findings.
  • Provide technical reviews for reports prepared by other analysts.
  • Evaluate customer requests, determine testing requirements, and prepare project quotations.
  • Ensure adherence to schedule, budget, and performance requirements.
  • Potentially direct phases of revenue‑producing projects.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering with experience in materials characterization and surface analysis techniques.
  • Experience with materials characterization tools.
  • Familiarity with quality system documents and compliance with all system requirements.
  • Strong analytical and judgment skills.
  • High level of computer literacy, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.

Work Schedule

Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend work as required.

Physical Requirements
  • Occasional movement within the office or laboratory.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods (4 + hours).
  • Ability to handle small and fragile devices with tweezers and/or fingers.
  • Require close‑distance visual acuity with or without correction.
  • Physical dexterity to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate equipment, use a telephone, and access file cabinets.
  • Remain in a stationary position 90 % of the time.
  • Speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume.
  • Ability to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions, and communicate with visitors.
