The position also includes an in-house assignment with the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Planning and Environmental Management Office, supporting one of RES Florida’s longest-standing and most valued clients. In this role, you will review transportation projects for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other federal and state environmental policies. Responsibilities will include evaluating the social, cultural, natural, and physical environment; developing avoidance and minimization strategies; identifying the need for additional environmental studies; and documenting project compliance. Additional responsibilities may include wetland and protected-species field reviews, environmental database development and management, environmental permitting support, technical reporting, and other environmental tasks.
For days in the field, you’ll begin your day prepping field gear for a site visit to various settings such as a wetland mitigation site or protected species habitat. Once on-site, you may collect data following project-specific protocols and QA/QC standards. You’ll help complete field datasheets, making sure they are accurate, and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
Back at the office, you’ll enter and analyze field data, draft sections of reports, and interpret site plans or planting palettes. You might meet with design or regulatory teammates to discuss a site’s feasibility based on regulatory or ecological constraints. You’ll balance independent work with collaborative efforts to move projects forward.
