CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Oversees research employees, students, and other relevant staff.
- Authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent applications.
- Assists in the development of training materials for research staff.
- Plans experiments and records and analyzes findings.
- Prepares research proposals and funding applications.
- Ensures that all activities are in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant scientific and technical developments.
- Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking an Assistant Director – Scientist who will join the Cancer Modeling Shared Resource. This translational facility provides qualified, cost effective and state‑of‑the‑art services to foster cancer research advancements and accelerate the discovery of tailored antitumor therapies. The candidate will directly assist the Director in running and implementing new services to support researchers in translational research and disease modeling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the implementation of preclinical and translational related services (disease modeling, noninvasive imaging, histopathology, transgenic and functional genomics).
- Independently conduct research projects based on scientific literature and recent advances, designing key experiments and developing new techniques.
- Advise, support, and train personnel on technical procedures and reagents, generating SOPs.
- Participate in staff evaluation and training.
- Manage project activities, including scheduling, sample tracking, quality analysis, troubleshooting, and billing.
- Assist in tracking service provision statistics, quality assessments, and reporting financial and technical status.
- Collaborate with the Director to develop, adapt, and implement new services and technologies.
- Support administrative activities for the Director, facility, and shared resources.
- Organize educational workshops, seminars, user group and lab meetings.
Department Specific Qualifications
Education
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in molecular biology, veterinary or biomedical sciences preferred.
Certification and Licensing
N/A
Experience
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in genetic engineering and/or animal models. Experience in service provision and/or management in a research core facility is preferred.
