Overview
Moderna is seeking a Scientist for the Analytical Development team in Norwood, MA. The role focuses on advanced analytical method development, optimization, and implementation to support therapeutic and vaccine programs. The position is full‑time and requires on‑site presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute analytical methods, including mass spectrometry and HPLC with various detector configurations, to assess plasmid, mRNA, and LNP products.
- Perform intact mass analysis and primary structure characterization of proteins.
- Develop LC‑MS/MS methods for qualitative and quantitative protein analysis.
- Create feasibility data and support method development, optimization for novel platforms such as new plasmid manufacturing approaches and oncology programs.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Research Analytics, Process Development, Quality Control, and Analytical Technical Operations to support method development, qualification, investigations, and technology transfer.
- Document experimental work in electronic lab notebooks and author technical reports, summaries, and method implementation documents.
- Maintain and troubleshoot LC‑MS instrumentation, including Orbitrap, Q‑TOF, and triple quadrupole systems.
- Ensure quality and data integrity in compliance with internal standards and regulatory expectations.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD with 0‑2 years or MS with 5+ years of relevant industry experience in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- 4‑5 years hands‑on experience in LC‑MS, HPLC, UV/Vis, spectroscopy, and MAM workflows.
- Proficiency in MS data analysis software (Xcalibur, MassHunter, Skyline, Biopharma Finder, Protein Metrics).
- Demonstrated ability to perform method development, troubleshooting, and data analysis for biologics, RNA, or complex formulations.
- Familiarity with regulatory guidance, method transfer, and collaboration with Quality in a regulated environment.
- Knowledge of LNP characterization or nucleic acid‑based analytical methods is a plus.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills for fast‑paced environments.
- Self‑motivated, scientifically curious, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Location and Work Model
The position is site‑based at Moderna’s Norwood, MA facility. Remote work is not available.
