Job description

Scientific Software Developer — Stone Ridge Technology

Stone Ridge Technology is the team behind ECHELON, the world's fastest and most scalable GPU-accelerated reservoir simulator. We are looking for an exceptional scientific software developer to join our growing team and help build the next generation of high-performance subsurface simulation software.

About the Role

You will work at the intersection of reservoir engineering, computational physics, and high-performance software. This is a role for someone who understands the science first: the reservoir engineering concepts, the underlying physics, and the applied mathematics of subsurface flow, and who then expresses that understanding in clean, efficient code. You will help implement and improve the numerical models and methods at the heart of ECHELON, collaborating with a world-class technical team of physicists, mathematicians, and reservoir engineers.

This is a unique opportunity for a scientifically-minded developer who wants to work for a small, growing company in a cross-disciplinary, high-ownership role, on software that is genuinely at the frontier of computational science.

What You'll Do
  • Contribute to the development of ECHELON and its ecosystem (models, I/O, workflows, APIs).
  • Translate reservoir-engineering and physical models into efficient numerical code.
  • Use modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate and improve software delivery.
  • Collaborate with reservoir engineers and product teams, testing and validating results.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement of the codebase.
What We're Looking For
  • Strong quantitative background in engineering, physics, or applied mathematics.
  • A strong grasp of reservoir engineering concepts and the physics of subsurface flow.
  • Solid understanding of numerical methods, linear algebra, and partial differential equations.
  • Experience with C++/CUDA/Python/HPC.
  • Experience with AI-assisted / AI-driven code development.
  • All levels of seniority will be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is required.
  • A self-motivated, independent person who takes initiative.
Why Join Us

You'll be part of a small, highly skilled team that is genuinely changing how reservoir simulation is done, not incrementally but by orders of magnitude. You'll have direct impact, work with some of the sharpest minds in the field, and operate in a collaborative environment where technical excellence is celebrated.
