Job summary

Mars in Nashville/Franklin, TN is seeking a Scientific Services Veterinarian to advance our veterinary nutrition programs through expert training, education, and partnership. This hybrid role requires reporting to the Franklin, TN office and traveling up to 75% with occasional overnights.

You will ally with Field Sales, build KOL networks, deliver in-depth nutrition education to veterinarians and hospital staff, and support strategic accounts to grow market share.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine with an active license in at least one state.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a veterinary practitioner (small animal preferred).
  • Strong scientific communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Educate key recommenders to drive increased recommendations and sales in the region.
  • Grow nutrition category sales through referral hospitals and general practices.
  • Develop and manage a network of KOLs and advocates in the territory.
  • Provide best-in-class nutrition education to veterinarians, technicians, and staff.
  • Support field-based teams and travel as required.

Title: Scientific Services Veterinarian

Location: Nashville/ Franklin, TN

Workstyle: Hybrid (Will be required to report to the Franklin, TN office)

Must be willing and able to travel to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of the position. Territory coverage may be adapted for business needs after hire. May be required to travel overnight 3+ nights each week. Ability to travel (50-75% including nights and weekends) and able to work from home effectively when not traveling.

The ROYAL CANIN Scientific Services Veterinarian (SSV) plays a pivotal role in elevating Royal Canin’s brand presence by strategically influencing diet recommendations through expert training, education, partnership, and ongoing support. SSVs collaborate closely with internal Royal Canin stakeholders to drive key activities and initiatives that contribute to achieving annual objectives for the Therapeutic Business Unit.

Externally, SSVs engage with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and veterinary professionals to enhance Royal Canin’s reputation within the broader veterinary community, leveraging these relationships to increase brand recommendations and expand the path of influence. As an essential member of a collaborative, team-based approach, the SSV is instrumental in growing Royal Canin’s market share within veterinary hospitals and strengthening brand awareness across the industry.

The SSV role requires a high degree of flexibility and a strong commitment to travel to successfully fulfill all responsibilities. Territory coverage may be adjusted post-hire to align with evolving business needs. Candidates must be prepared to travel extensively - up to 75% of the time including overnight stays of three or more nights per week, with occasional travel during nights and weekends. When not traveling, the ability to work productively and independently from a home office is essential.

What are we looking for?
  • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (or VMD) with an active license in at least one state.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a veterinary practitioner, including internships, co-ops, and/or residency, with a preference for small or companion animal practice.
  • Exceptional scientific communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneNote.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively - up to 75% within the assigned territory, with eligibility for a company vehicle; travel may include airline, train, or other modes of transportation.
  • Flexibility to travel during nights and weekends, with the capability to independently manage travel arrangements.
What will be your responsibilities?
  • Collaborate with Field Sales Teams: Partner closely with field sales teams within the assigned geography to educate key recommenders, driving increased recommendations, market share, and sales growth across the region.
  • Drive Nutrition Category Growth: Cultivate and leverage relationships with specialty referral hospitals to expand nutrition category sales within surrounding general practices.
  • Support Strategic Accounts: Strengthen strategic accounts by building relationships with regional medical leadership and participating in high-impact events that advance the Royal Canin veterinary diet business.
  • Develop KOL Networks: Establish and nurture a network of Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Royal Canin advocates and potential speakers within the territory, supporting veterinary operations, marketing, corporate communications, and scientific communications initiatives.
  • Deliver Best-in-Class Training: Provide exceptional Royal Canin nutrition education to veterinarians, technicians, and hospital staff, ensuring the highest standards of knowledge and education are delivered.
  • Foster Business Growth: Contribute to the overall growth of the veterinary business unit through effective collaboration and joint business planning with regional and strategic account sales teams.
  • Offer Technical Expertise: Serve as a trusted technical resource, delivering expert support and guidance as needed.
  • Represent Royal Canin: Act as a Royal Canin spokesperson at key veterinary conferences and events, enhancing brand presence and business outcomes.
  • Provide Nutritional Consultations: Offer expert nutritional case consultations to support veterinary partners and clients.
  • Manage Territory Coverage: Adapt to territory and regional coverage requirements as needed; anticipate travel 3-4 days per week, with one day allocated for remote home office work.
  • Support Field-Based Teams: Provide comprehensive support to field-based teams, requiring both local and air travel as part of the role.
  • Fulfill Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support business objectives.
