Job summary

Christ Church Episcopal School is seeking part-time science tutors for our Upper School to provide weekly academic support during Achievement Center hours. Applicants should have at least three years of tutoring or teaching high school science, with AP Science experience preferred.

Tutors will meet students on campus for scheduled sessions, help develop systematic study habits, review assignments, and provide progress reports to families and faculty. Background checks are required.

Qualifications

• At least three years of tutoring/teaching experience with high school science courses.
• Experience with AP Science courses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students at the school during Achievement Center hours for weekly sessions.
• Encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying science concepts.
• Review assignments, re-teach topics as needed, and use study strategies to prep for tests.
• Provide progress updates to students, parents, and faculty as required.
• Attend tutor training sessions and meetings as necessary.
• Perform other duties consistent with a Professional Tutor.

Position Description

The Achievement Center seeks creative and knowledgeable part-time science tutors to provide academic support for our Upper School students. Tutors provide individual support to students through weekly scheduled appointments. Applicants must have at least three years of previous tutoring and/or teaching experience with high school science courses. Experience with tutoring/teaching AP Science courses preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Meet with students at the school during Achievement Center hours (M-Th 7:45 am-4:30 pm, F 7:45 am-4:00 pm) for weekly scheduled sessions
• Encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying science concepts
• Assist students with specific topics that require instructional support or warrant further exploration, review recent assignments, and work through problems or questions that require re-teaching
• Utilize proven study strategies or manipulatives to prepare students for upcoming tests and quizzes
• Maintain ongoing communication with students, parents, and faculty members, including providing progress reports.
• Attend tutor training sessions and meetings when necessary
• Perform other duties consistent with the position of a Professional Tutor
