Sylvan Learning Center is seeking a part-time Chemistry, Physics or STEM Teacher to create engaging after-school learning experiences for students ages 6 to 18. You will prepare materials, greet students, and deliver instruction aligned with Sylvan lessons in a lively classroom environment.

The role emphasizes evaluating progress, providing encouragement, and communicating student needs to staff. A science or math degree candidate is preferred, with comfort using tablets and basic computer tools.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a four-year chemistry/physics/science or math degree or already possess one.
• Familiar with basic computer operation and tablet usage (iPad, Netbook).
• Available to work after school and during holidays.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for each instructional session and gathers materials as appropriate.
• Greets students and initiates instruction to engage each student.
• Instructs students according to Sylvan lessons.
• Manages students, tasks, and time to create a robust session.

Sylvan Learning Center - Part-time Chemistry, Physics or STEM Teacher Position

Sylvan offers Chemistry and Physics homework support as well as STEM programs that help students develop an interest in science and math related areas of study. We’re looking for high-energy teachers who are able to create a positive and fun learning environment that will help kids get excited about these 21st century skills! All in a fun, energetic, after-school environment!

The Sylvan Chemistry, Physics or STEM Teacher is responsible for creating robust learning experiences for students as well as evaluating student progress on each assignment.

Essential Job Functions

• Prepares for each instructional session; gathers and prepares materials as appropriate
• Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student
• Instructs students according to the design of the Sylva or school lessons.
• Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
• Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment
• Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
• Motivates students with Sylvan motivation criteria given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards
• Excited about working with students between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age.
• Able to effectively communicate the value of Chemistry, Physics or STEM and how it impacts people and the world around us.
• Has the ability to explain concepts to students in multiple ways.
• Communicates specific student needs to center staff.
• Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students

Chemistry, Physics or STEM Program Teachers

• Currently working toward a four-year chemistry, physics, science or math related degree or already possess one.
• Must be familiar with basic computer operation and tablet (iPad, Netbook) utilization.
• Able to work when the kids are out of school. After-school and holiday breaks are important because that is when students come to Sylvan for tutoring.

Skills And Abilities Required

• Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones
