Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking a Science Engagement Specialist for EarthRISE Developers Academy located at Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. The role focuses on knowledge management, science communication, and coordinated outreach across NASA and partner teams.

You will create visual and written materials that translate technical science into accessible formats for diverse audiences, and support dissemination and presentations of research results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of graphic design or science communication experience.
• Experience designing print and digital materials (brochures, posters, newsletters, web graphics).
• Strong typography, layout, color theory, branding, and style-guide alignment.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading for scientific audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines and attention to detail.
• Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
• U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR).

The Science Engagement Specialist will develop compelling visual and written communications that translate complex scientific and technical information into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences. This position combines expertise in graphic design, visual storytelling, and science communication to support research dissemination, education, outreach, marketing, and public engagement initiatives. The Science Engagement Specialist will also support the organization of presentations to deliver research results at diverse forums, as well as internal, upward, and outward communication highlights about EarthRISE Developers Academy to NASA Earth Action, Satellite Needs, NASA Langley Research Center, and Science Directorate leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Science Communication, Journalism, Communications, or a STEM-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2 or more years of experience in graphic design, science communication, research communications, or a related field
• Experience designing print and digital communications, including brochures, reports, scientific posters, presentations, newsletters, web graphics, social media content, and infographics
• Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, branding, and visual hierarchy, as well as the ability to align with an agency style guide
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills for scientific and general audiences
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse team members or in multidiscipline collaborations
• Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR)
