Qualifications

• School bus permit required by Illinois law (before training).
• Pass school bus driver physical (district-paid).
• Pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing.
• Pass state/federal background check.
• Attend annual school bus driver refresher class.
• Complete First Aid & CPR training (district-provided).
• Open to ongoing professional development.
• Must have valid driver's license.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Comfortable securing small children in safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate the school van safely and effectively to minimize risk of injury or damage.
• Maintain dependable attendance.
• Read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
• Follow district transportation protocols and procedures.
• Maintain schedules and keep order on the van.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Transportation Supervisor.
• Ensure the van is stored safely and securely.
• Work well with students, including those with disabilities.
