Job summary

Durango School District 9-R is seeking a Security Specialist II to join the Safety and Security Team at Durango High School. This 1.0 FTE, 9-month position includes full benefits and starts October 26, 2026 or ASAP.

The role emphasizes maintaining campus safety, monitoring for potential incidents, and enforcing district safety policies. Training in threat assessment and emergency response is valued.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; psychology/social studies coursework preferred.
• Direct experience in school security or law enforcement preferred.
• SRP/SRM trained; Safe2Tell trained; Threat Assessment trained.

Responsibilities

• Discuss infractions with students and prepare written reports for administrators.
• Monitor lunch periods inside and outside the building.
• Maintain video surveillance and assess threats or hazardous dynamics.
• Direct traffic in and out of the parking lot and assist with student access.
• Attend security meetings and participate in drills and trainings.
• Assist visitors, verify student IDs, and escort non-students off campus.
