ABOUT THE POSITIONUnder the direction of the Operations Manager, the Security Officer has the immediate responsibility for maintaining a safe and secure learning atmosphere for staff, students and visitors. This includes controlling access to the building and grounds by unauthorized persons; assuring that all students report to their assigned instructional areas, and ensuring that students are never left unattended in the school building.Starting Salary Range: $40,000 - $51,194You will:Patrol public transportation routes and local businessesPatrol school building and groundsPrepare a written report for all criminal incidents on school property for school administrationParticipate in appropriate trainings and maintain appropriate certifications related to safety and securityMaintain a high profile to discourage disruptive actsCover evening and weekend school activitiesEnsure that surveillance is provided of suspected problem areasAssist the administration with staff and student security awareness programsOperate security equipment (two-way radio, metal detector, security cameras, etc.)Provide coverage during arrival and dismissal timesServe as a member of the School Emergency Response TeamOther duties as assignedYou are able to:Intervene in fights and to apprehend and de-escalate persons.Ability to spend long periods of time walking and standing and to complete security patrol duties.Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions.Required to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as assigned by school administration to provide maximum security coverage.Required occasionally to work overtime.Must support the Operations Manager in securing coverage for shifts missed due to sick, vacation, or other absences.You Have:Must have a high school diploma or GED.Excellent oral communication and people skills.Ability to spend long periods of time walking and standing to complete security patrol duties.Experience in work involving the welfare and safety of students or others, preferably in an educational environment.Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a DC Security Officer License.
