Job summary

East Tallahatchie School District's Charleston Middle School is seeking a qualified School Resource Officer to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff.

The officer will lead district security efforts, supervise law enforcement personnel assigned to the district, conduct background checks, manage crowd control at events, and coordinate drug inspections and training programs. Immediate starting date; State certification required.

Responsibilities

• Direct traffic flow around schools when needed.
• Administer the district safety and security program and budget.
• Submit required reports to the District and State.
• Maintain current certification standards and complete required training.

TITLE: SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Such other qualifications as may be set by the administration

SUPERVISES: Departmental Staff

REPORTS TO: Superintendent or designee

JOB GOAL: To provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and personnel of the East Tallahatchie School District and work to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the East Tallahatchie School District community.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including, but are not limited to:

• Conforms to all state laws and regulations regarding law enforcement
• Recruits and supervises all law enforcement personnel hired by the School District to assist in carrying out the duties of this office
• Responsible for supervision of crowd control at all sporting events and extracurricular activities
• Responsible for background checks of all intended employees
• Responsible for checking affidavits of students living within the district
• Responsible for checking affidavits of students living outside the district
• Responsible for directing traffic flow around schools when needed
• Develops and maintains an office-friendly program in the School District
• Attends all required meetings
• Responsible for investigating any acts of theft, violence, or other acts that disrupt the operation and decorum of the schools
• Administers the budget for the East Tallahatchie School District
• Develops recommendations for future needs and improvements concerning district safety and security
• Submits all reports as required by the East Tallahatchie School District and the State of Mississippi
• Keeps current all certification standards as required by the East Tallahatchie School District and the State of Mississippi
• Administers routine drug inspections throughout the school district with the district and local K-9 units
• Administers drug education seminars throughout the district (at least one per month)
• Responsible for NCIC
• Complete the 40-hour MDE school Resource officer training after being hired to work for the East Tallahatchie School District
• East Tallahatchie School District and work to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the East Tallahatchie School District community
• Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
• Supports the East Tallahatchie School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
• Performs other duties as assigned

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Trustees

EVALUATION: Annually
