Job summary

Sylvania in Kasson-Mantorville Community Education seeks a School Readiness Preschool Para for 2026-2027. The position runs 8:15-2:45 PM, Monday through Friday, about 28-30 hours weekly, supporting the Early Childhood teacher and children aged 3-5.

You'll help set up, maintain the classroom, assist with activities, supervise students, and communicate observations to the lead teacher while ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with children ages 3-5 is preferred.
• Knowledge of child development is preferred.

Job Description

Assist Early Childhood teacher to help set up, maintain classroom environment, keep materials supplied, prep needed materials, and work directly with the children at Kasson-Mantorville Community Education in the Early Childhood Program.

Daily Duties Include

• Greet and assist children and parents upon arrival and departure.
• Assist in maintaining a safe classroom environment for children.
• Assist the lead teacher in classroom daily activities and routines to promote smooth transitions.
• Communicate any important observations regarding student actions or development to the lead teacher.
• Provide comfort to distressed children through compassion and tact.
• Develop positive relationships with children with a view to promote self-esteem and self-discipline.
• Provide children with support and assistance during snack/bathroom times.
• Support the lead teacher by assisting with student behavior interventions.
• Oversee children to make sure that they are safe during indoor & outdoor activities using active supervision.
• Dress appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities.
• Always use appropriate language and the tone of voice is positive.
• Communicate with children at eye-level using simple, short and specific directions.
• Log attendance and milk counts.
• Maintain student confidentiality.
• Provide support and modifications for students with disabilities.
• Validate children's emotions by naming them and helping them talk about their feelings.
• Engage with children during class activities and encourage children to play together.
• Ensure students' basic needs are met (attention/love, food/water, activity/rest, safety/protection, clean/safe environment).

Qualifications

Experience working with children ages 3-5 and knowledge of child development preferred.
