Job summary

The Chambers County Board of Education seeks a Psychometrist to measure and interpret psycho-educational data to support student placement and learning experiences. You will administer assessments, prepare clear reports, and collaborate with MEDC and IEP teams to guide interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and coordinates all initial assessments and reassessments for placement and re-evaluation in special education.
  • Prepares evaluation reports that can be understood by staff and parents.
  • Participates on MEDC and IEP committees to interpret results and assist in placement decisions.
  • Interprets evaluation results for parents/guardians.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to school system policies.

CHAMBERS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
Psychometrist
Qualifications:
  1. Certification in School Psychometry at the A-Certification level or School Psychology as issued by the State Department of Education. Licensed Clinical Psychologist competent in psychological assessment.
  2. Experience in administration of standardized IQ achievement, behavior rating, and adaptive behavior instruments.
  3. Capable knowledge of using word processing and/or computer scoring programs in preparing psychological reports.
  4. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  5. Valid Alabama driver’s license is preferred.
  6. Provide own or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
  1. Knowledge of psycho-educational testing, evaluation, intervention, consultation and the area of special education.
  2. Skills to communicate and interpret assessment results to colleagues, parents, and students and to use the results for intervention and remediation.
  3. Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.
  4. Mobility and visual acuity to make on-site visits to schools for testing purposes.
Job goal:
  1. Measuring and evaluating human capabilities, personality, and achievement.
  2. Interpreting the meaning of evaluative data for the placement and education of students.
  3. Participating in the application of evaluative data to the development of appropriate learning experiences of students.
  4. Providing consultative services to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and others in interpreting and analyzing assessment data for use in planning learning environments, using intervention strategies and classroom diagnostic techniques.
Performance responsibilities and essential functions:
  1. Administers and/or coordinates all individual assessments and reassessments required for initial student placement and re-evaluation in special education.
  2. Prepares evaluation reports that can be easily understood by school staff and parents.
  3. Participates on the Multidisciplinary Eligibility Determination Committee (MEDC) and IEP committees as needed to interpret evaluation results and assists in making decisions regarding the placements of students.
  4. Interprets and discusses evaluation results for parents/guardians.
  5. Fosters cooperative working relationships with principals, teachers, and all other related personnel.
  6. Coordinates workshops and seminars for faculty and staff members concerning matters related to special education.
  7. Keeps informed regarding research, psychological and educational testing practices in the areas of test construction, test administration, and test interpretation.
  8. Attends conferences and/or conventions relating to special education services and psychological evaluations to improve professional skills and knowledge.
  9. Consults and collaborates with principals, teachers, and counselors regarding the inclusion of special education students in the regular class.
  10. Adheres to school system rules, regulations and policies.
  11. Adheres to established work schedules, reporting deadlines and reports absences in a timely manner.
  12. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  13. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
  14. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  15. Maintains expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.
  16. Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
  17. Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  18. Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  19. Serves on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
  20. Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  21. Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
  22. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.
  23. Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
  24. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Terms of employment:

Length of contract and salary determined by the Board’s salary schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on performance assessment.
