Job summary

LAFRANCIS HARDIMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is seeking a School Psychologist for the 2026-2027 school year to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth, and to collaborate with families and staff.

The role includes conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, interpreting data, MTSS implementation, counseling, classroom observations, and developing FBAs/BIPs; participate in multidisciplinary teams; provide crisis intervention and trauma-informed support.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in psychology or related field required.
• NYS Certification in School Psychology required.
• Spanish-speaking is preferred.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

Duties include but are not limited to

• Conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, including cognitive, academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and adaptive assessments, as appropriate.
• Interpreting assessment data and clearly communicating findings and recommendations to families, educators, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Collaborating with teachers and other professionals to identify students experiencing academic, behavioral, developmental, attendance, or social-emotional challenges.
• Supporting the implementation and ongoing development of the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and intervention processes.
• Providing individual and small-group counseling and social-emotional interventions when appropriate.
• Conducting classroom observations and assisting staff in developing effective behavioral and instructional interventions.
• Participating in the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) when appropriate.
• Providing crisis intervention, risk assessment, and follow-up support for students experiencing significant emotional or behavioral concerns.
• Applying trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices when supporting students and families.
• Consulting with teachers regarding classroom management, student behavior, learning needs, and social-emotional development.
• Collaborating with parents and guardians as meaningful partners in supporting their children's educational and emotional development.
• Participate in student support, MTSS, attendance, crisis response, and other multidisciplinary teams as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s Degree or advanced degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college/university, and a NYS Certification in School Psychology, with experience in working with young children in a school setting.
• Must be a child-centered, trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, compassionate, and solutions-oriented professional who recognizes that academic achievement and social-emotional wellness are related and interconnected. Must possess in-depth knowledge of a variety of assessments and their applied purpose;
• The elementary school psychologist is expected to act as the building sub-chair at CSE/CPSE meetings; Must be familiar with the Wyandanch School District and its surrounding community; Spanish-speaking is necessary.
