Job summary

Portsmouth Public Schools in Portsmouth, Virginia is seeking a School Psychologist to perform diagnostic evaluations of students, interpret intellectual, social and emotional development, and serve as a consultant to school personnel and parents.

Reports to the Coordinator of Special Education and holds a Master’s or Educational Specialist degree in school psychology; Virginia endorsement or Board of Psychology license is required.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Educational Specialist degree in school psychology.
• Virginia endorsement in School Psychology or license by the Virginia Board of Psychology.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with school personnel, parents and community agencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic evaluations including intellectual, achievement, and emotional development.
• Conduct consultations and prepare/write reports for schools and parents.
• Maintain and organize student files and records.
• Screen referrals, schedule evaluations, and secure records from community agencies.
• Confer with parents and schools to recommend programs and home environments.
• Serve as liaison with community agencies and on the Child Study Team.
• Compile comprehensive student information files including surveys and reports.
• Perform related tasks as required.
