Overview

Unified School District#1 (USD#1) is seeking experienced and qualified individuals for the position of School Psychologist (Pupil Services Specialist) at our Correctional Facilities under the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC). This recruitment is continuous and may be used to fill openings in correctional facilities across the state. Those who possess a School Psychologist (#070) CT Endorsement are encouraged to apply directly to this recruitment. While the Pupil Services Specialist classification has an umbrella of disciplines (i.e., social work, school counseling, etc.), this recruitment will be specifically used for hiring a CT-certified School Psychologist.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • First shift, Monday through Friday
  • Full time, 35 hours per week
  • Positions may be directed to any one of our facilities based on the candidate’s Education Endorsement and Department needs
  • Salary details derived from the P-3B T1-T4 35 Hour Pay Plan: MA Degree: Step 1 minimum $72,241; Step 14 maximum $122,335; 6th Year: Step 1 minimum $77,294; Step 14 maximum $130,898. New state employees start at applicable minimum.
  • This is a Hazardous Duty position
  • Candidates selected for hire are required to attend a fourteen (14) week training at the CT DOC Training Academy

ABOUT US

The Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is the agency responsible for corrections in Connecticut. The DOC operates 13 correctional facilities and has its headquarters in Wethersfield. It protects public safety by ensuring offenders serve their sentences in safe, humane facilities with re-entry programming. The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction is a unified system; all sentenced and unsentenced offenders are supervised by the DOC. The Department also provides supervision for offenders on parole, community release, and other discretionary release programs.

Your Role

The School Psychologist will perform a full range of pupil service functions for students within the district that include educational diagnosis, counseling, and psychological services. The role includes collaboration with the State School Teachers to offer resources and assist in planning educational programs. Areas of work include:

  • Liaison Activities – between students and former education placements; outside agencies and local school programs; the school program and institutional DOC components; interested parties and the school programs, particularly as it relates to transition to the community
  • Direct Service – individual and group counseling for social, emotional, psychological, vocational, educational, and career planning needs; crisis intervention
  • Administration – administer and analyze psychological assessments; create IEP goals in self-determination, behavior, and transition; prepare and deliver classroom lessons and group presentations
  • General Assessment & Placement – assist with the general assessment program; administer group and individual achievement and vocational assessments; support data-driven decision making

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

General Experience — A Master’s degree which includes a planned program of preparation for the field in which the special services are performed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • State of CT Endorsement #070, School Psychologist
  • Experience in identification and eligibility of Special Education Students
  • Experience as a liaison between students, former education placements, outside agencies, local school programs, and other interested parties
  • Experience with individual and group counseling
  • Experience participating in and contributing to PPT processes
  • Experience promoting student development of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills through counseling and instruction
  • Experience monitoring achievement of IEP and ITP objectives
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess and maintain an appropriate Connecticut State Board of Education certificate in a related field (e.g., school psychologist, school counselor, etc.)
  • Incumbents may be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut driver's license
