Job summary

Woonsocket Education Department in Woonsocket, Rhode Island seeks a School Psychologist to conduct evaluations, support behavioral services, and participate in IEP teams. The role involves reporting evaluation results, advising on accommodations, and ensuring compliance with RI regulations.

The candidate will collaborate with Principals, teachers, and families, engage in district PD, RTI activities, and provide crisis support as needed, while maintaining adherence to state and federal education

Qualifications

  • RIDE certification as School Psychologist.
  • Master's degree or higher from a NASP-accredited school psychology program.
  • Experience with Special Education processes (IEP meetings, documentation, initials).
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local regulations and procedures guiding school psychology.
  • Bilingual, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological evaluations (initial, three-year, extended, and additional) within mandated timeframes.
  • Coordinate behavioral support services across the district, develop behavior support plans, and assist staff with data collection.
  • Provide evaluation results to the IEP Team Chair and prepare reports ahead of meetings.
  • Present and interpret evaluation results at IEP meetings and summarize key findings.
  • Assist IEP teams in understanding how disability affects learning and ensure proper documentation at IEP meetings.
  • Advise on accommodations/modifications and identify required services.
  • Adhere to RI IEP processes and complete all mandated paperwork and activities.
  • Participate in district professional development and RTI meetings; contribute to department and building meetings.
  • Consult with Principals, staff, and parents; provide crisis counseling as needed.

Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts psychological evaluations: initial, three-year, extended and additional
assessments as indicated within mandated timeframes
Coordinates behavioral support services throughout district or school including FBA's, develops or assists in the development of behavior support plans and provides support to staff to implement strategies and collect data
Participates in IEP process by providing evaluation results to Team Chair and providing reports in advance of meetings
Participates in IEP team process and meetings by presenting and interpreting psychological evaluation results, summarizes key results for IEP team, and makes recommendations
Assists the IEP team in understanding the impact of the disability on learning 6. Collaborates with IEP team members to ensure proper documentation is completed at each IEP meeting
Provides information regarding accommodations and/or modifications
Helps identify educationally relevant and required services
Adheres to entrance/exit criteria for programs and services
Communicates with Team Chairs and Principals regarding concerns or questions
Complies with the RI special education IEP process, including the development of the Individual Educational Programs (IEP)and related documents and the completion of all required paperwork and activities as mandated in State and Federal Special Education
Regulations.
Attends and participates in District-wide professional development activities as directed by the Special Education Director or Superintendent
Schedules and participates in RTI District meetings
Participates in Special Education Department and Building meetings when requested
Consults to Principals, faculty and specialized programs within buildings
Provides crisis/acute short term counseling/intervention for students in special circumstances at the request of the Principal and/or Special Education Director
Consults to general and special educators, related service providers and parents regarding student support, management and other needs
Communicates with Special Education Department, Building Principals, parents and outside agencies with regard to assessments
Follows District, Department and Building initiatives, directives and procedures adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies including compliance with all aspect of the RI IEP process and local procedures
Participates in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet RI Licensure requirements
Uses professional literature, evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions 22. Uses professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision making
Consistently uses practices that are likely to enable students to demonstrate respect for differences
Regularly reflects on his/her practice, individually and with colleagues
Consistently seeks outs and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, and professional developmental activities to gain expertise
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designee

Required Qualifications:
RIDE teacher certification as a School Psychologist
Completion of a Masters degree or higher from a school psychology program that is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists.
Experience with Special Education processes (i.e. IEP meetings, documentation, initials)
Demonstrates knowledge of the federal, state, local legislation, regulations, policies and procedures that mandate and guide psychological practice in schools
Bilingual, preferred Position Type: Full-time
