Responsibilities
  • Provide psychological evaluation for pupils referred as candidates for special education programs.
  • Administer culturally appropriate tests including intelligence, achievement, personality, adaptive behavior, and perceptual‑motor assessments.
  • Perform systematic direct observations of pupils in collaboration with the Social Worker.
  • Complete psychological reports in a timely manner and provide reports to the appropriate educational authority.
  • Interpret psychological and diagnostic data for professionals, parents, and other stakeholders at Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings and after re‑evaluations.
  • Provide input on program planning for initial and annual IEPs.
  • Set up initial IEP meetings, send invitations, and complete IEP forms.
  • Ensure MET forms are ready for initial IEPs and that all parties complete their portions.
  • Complete 30‑Day Temporary Enrollment processes promptly after enrollment.
  • Write and send all IEPs for 30‑Day Temporary Enrollment students.
  • Monitor annual IEP dates and ensure Special Education Teachers send invites and complete achievement testing using the same test as the previous year.
  • Review and copy IEPs for parents, CA‑60, and related personnel.
  • Facilitate distribution of reviewed annual IEPs and monitor teacher compliance.
  • Attend all Behavior Review sessions for RtI Tier III and special‑education students with behavior issues.
  • Provide input into Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Collaborate with the Social Worker during Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan processes.
  • Oversee the RtI process with administrators and support staff.
  • Review referrals and determine appropriate special‑education categories and professionals involved.
  • Coordinate Tier III meetings and record them on the office calendar.
  • Send Outlook messages, contact parents, and send reminders for all Tier III 4‑8th grade students.
  • Assist with crisis intervention (mini‑crises and major crises) and meet with parents/guardians as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Pupil Accounting or Attendance Secretary to enter special‑education data into Zangle.
  • Maintain updated roster of all special‑education students.
  • Ensure timely completion of assessments and therapy for Occupational Therapist and Speech‑Language Pathologist.
  • Oversee transportation of Academy students to outside treatment centers and attend their IEPs.
  • Review monthly time schedules for support staff and help with payroll information.
  • Oversee the Continuous Improvement Monitoring System special‑education monitor.
  • Prepare for the university’s yearly special‑education visit.
  • Ensure compliance with state laws and guidelines concerning special‑education services.
  • Update staff on changing laws and regulations as needed.
  • Obtain necessary School Psychology CEUs and maintain records of hours; pursue Special Education Director/Supervisor role requirements.
  • Attend Special Education Director/Supervisor meetings at Wayne County RESA.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Master’s degree from a state board‑approved school psychology program.
  • Either a Preliminary Psychology Certificate (with intent to work toward a School Psychologist Certificate) or a School Psychologist Certificate.
  • Compliance with all Michigan requirements for Special Education Supervisors.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and unprofessional conduct check.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal special‑education laws and other legal aspects of the role.
  • Strong consultation, collaboration, and counseling skills with students, parents, Academy personnel, and outside stakeholders.
  • Expertise in test administration and interpretation of intelligence, achievement, personality, adaptive behavior, and perceptual‑motor tests.
  • Skill in integrating data from tests and other sources and effectively communicating findings.
  • Ability to conduct systematic direct observation of pupils.
  • Knowledge of learning and learning impairments, human growth and development.
  • Awareness of behavior management techniques and the ability to plan interventions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of personality development and human behavior assessment.
  • Understanding how cultural and ethnic differences influence behavior and evaluation.
  • Competency in planning and prescribing teaching and curriculum strategies for pupils.
  • Knowledge of ethical standards of the school psychology profession.
