Job summary

Boston Public Schools is seeking a dedicated school-based lifeguard to guard the pool, supervise students, enforce rules, and maintain sanitary conditions around the pool. The role supports the Aquatics program for both high school and elementary activities.

Under supervision of the School leader and with guidance from Health & Wellness and Facilities, you will perform rescues, CPR, water testing, and records management, ensuring a safe aquatic environment and collaboration with instructors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification (Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED) renewed every two years.
• Minimum of six months of related lifeguard experience.
• Knowledge of on-site emergency medical services and pool safety standards.
• Ability to judge evolving dynamics of swimmers and enforce pool rules.

Responsibilities

• Guard the pool and supervise students and facility in accordance with health regulations.
• Ensure a lifeguard is on duty whenever the pool is in use.
• Daily cleaning and operations of the pool area and equipment.
• Inspect water quality, temperature, and safety systems; perform water testing twice daily.
• Respond to emergencies with CPR/First Aid and rescue as needed.
• Coordinate with Aquatics Manager and staff to maintain safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate pool records and comply with uniform regulations.
• Attend required in-service trainings and support instructional staff.
