School of Applied Health Lab Coordinator

Position Summary

Under the Dean’s direction, the Lab Coordinator will operate and maintain the Human Performance and Biomechanics laboratories to support teaching, research, and community‐based testing in accordance with NSCA, ACSM, and OSHA standards. The position also provides technical, administrative, and operational support to faculty, students, and external clients to ensure safe, accurate, and effective use of laboratory facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• 30% Support the smooth operations of the lab and maintain equipment in accordance with NSCA, ACSM, and OSHA standards—including calibration, cleaning, programming, and troubleshooting.
• 20% Provide support to faculty and students by ensuring all equipment is in working order and helping to troubleshoot equipment or methodological issues related to lab use.
• 10% Manage equipment checkout: coordinate checkouts, verify user training, confirm equipment condition before release and upon return, and arrange repairs or replacements. Maintain continuous inventory of all lab items and order consumable parts as needed.
• 10% Maintain a logical, conflict‑free lab calendar, provide training on its use, and enable users to schedule their own time. Verify and log certifications and training completed by lab users. Coordinate and schedule general lab training; provide lab orientations and safety briefings at least once per semester.
• 10% Monitor and promptly respond to emails and phone calls regarding schedule requests or service inquiries. Update voicemail announcements and auto‑reply messages each semester to reflect lab hours.
• 10% Support paid community testing, including exercise tests, and assist students in performing tests and assessments in classes.
• 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of principles of performing support services, curriculum materials, and their use.
• Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities; operate technical equipment; maintain records; perform basic maintenance on scientific equipment.
• Effective written and verbal communication with a diverse population.
• Experience supporting the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory and/or clinical equipment (e.g., motion analysis systems, force devices, physiological monitoring equipment).
• Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing biomechanical or physiological data using standard acquisition and analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and regulatory compliance.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage scheduling systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment and data acquisition systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and community partners.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Equivalent to three years of instructional support services experience for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials, supplies, or repairing equipment for a field related to Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related area.
• Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses that involve extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field may substitute one year of the required experience.
• Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in the same disciplines may substitute two years of the required experience.
• Current certification in CPR and First Aid, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification within a specified timeframe.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Human Performance, or a closely related field.
• NSCA Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS).
• NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
• ACSM Exercise Physiologist or Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification.
• College‑level teaching or laboratory instruction experience.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research or community service.
• Experience in fall‑risk assessment, gait analysis, stress testing, resistance training program design, and exercise prescription.
• Experience with health screening, risk classification, and clinical event coordination.

Benefits

Salary range $4,595–$6,694 per month (Step 1–20). Anticipated hiring range $4,595–$5,491 per month (Step 1–10). This is a permanent, full‑time, non‑exempt, 12‑month pay plan position with a one‑year probationary period.
