Job Description

General Purpose of Job: To inspire and prepare all scholars with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by assisting in preparing and serving quality and nutritious meals to students and staff. Contribute to a positive kitchen team that builds relationships with students, building staff and community members.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation of breakfast, lunch, and special events including, but not limited to, Fruit and Vegetable Grant, After School Snack Program, Dinner Program, Summer Programs, etc.
  • Serve quality meals on time every day regardless of challenges with food, equipment or staffing.
  • Determine and order appropriate quantities of food and supplies necessary for efficient operation of the building meal program.
  • Prepare and serve meals, wash dishes, clean equipment and facilities as needed.
  • Follow and train others in proper procedures for safety and use of food service equipment.
  • Calculate daily food quantities while minimizing waste.
  • Train staff on standardized recipes to ensure safe food service and compliance with USDA requirements.
  • Maintain a positive work environment where staff feel welcome and valued.
  • Attend in‑service meetings and trainings to gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Maintain temperature logs when necessary to ensure safety.
  • Ensure proper receiving and storage procedures are followed in accordance with current sanitation guidelines.
  • Support continuous improvement program by accomplishing goals.
  • Provide accurate information to manager regarding daily menu and food production records.
  • Collaborate with nutrition staff, building staff and community members.
  • Respond to questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Use creative ways to connect with students to seek their input and build positive relationships.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families and staff to maintain positive relationships.
  • Recognize and acknowledge concerns and proactively work with others to find solutions.
  • Follow USDA and MDE meal pattern regulations.
  • Follow all local and district health safety codes.
  • Complete annual health and safety training.
  • Follow all current uniform guidelines and Osseo Area Schools Food and Nutrition personal hygiene procedures.
  • Help in passing bi‑annual health inspections.

Salary & Benefits

Work schedule: 6 hrs/day
